The Flowering Plants, Ferns & Lichens of Isle Martin

This booklet contains listings of the various flowering plants, ferns and lichens that have been identified on Isle Martin – it is by no means an exhaustive list.

The island can boast nine identified fern species, including Wilson’s filmy-fern and the Golden-scaled male-fern while the lichens on view include10 members of the Cladonia family, from the abundant Cladonia floerkeana to the rarer Cladonia coccifera. As far as habitat is concerned, Isle Martin has areas of marshy ground (home to Carex panicea and Galium palustre), bracken areas (where the heath spotted-orchid is to be found), cliff grassland, coastal rocks (here you can find the Procumbent pearlwort) and shoreline shingle. Each habitat has its own particular group of plants and our leaflet lists these together with their preferred habitat.
